Couple's Connect: Feb. 8th!

Spouse & Family is beginning this semester with Couple's Connect - a gathering of husbands and wives who want to build into their marriage.

We'll focus on connecting to our spouse, to God and to one another. In an intentional but informal way, we'll share together our prayers, laughter, struggles and hope.

The night's theme is: "love, honor, cherish" where we'll talk the vows we made to one another on our wedding day. Marriage's journey is full of ups and downs and we'll hear from some courageous couples about what that creed has come to mean for them today. Husbands and wives will have the opportunity to share personally with one another over a delicious dessert too.

When: 6:30 - 8:30 pm Monday, February 8th
Where: Seminary Dining Commons in the Student Center
Childcare: 6:15 - 8:30pm at the Student Center (free)
B.Y.O.C. - Bring Your Own Cup for coffee, tea or hot chocolate

Students, Spouses, Staff, Community - all are welcome. Come even if your spouse can't!

Recapping Couple's Connect

The last Couple's Connect, on Nov. 16th, opened an avenue of sharing with one another that we would like to continue to foster.

Here's a recap of the night ~
We began together under the premise of Galatians 6:2, "Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." This night was about our individual wounds within the context of our marriage and community. We shared a moment of silence, to simply sit with one another and then we broke out into group of men and women. There, we entered into an invitation from James 5:16, "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective." We listened to testimonies of God's work in people's life to help them face their wounds and receive healing. Each of us had the opportunity to then safely share our burden as we wrote it down and slipped it into a bag. That bag was passed around and we read each one, acknowledging and receiving them collectively. We were given the chance to draw what a symbol of freedom and reconciliation would look like in our lives as we ended that small group time together. We came back and sang in worship to the God who is mighty to save and read a number of Scriptures that speak of the truth we are trying to abide in. We capped off the night with delicious desserts and joyful fellowship. Each couple represented left with their choice of either book: Dr. Seamand's, Wounds that Heal or a redeemable gift certificate for Dan Allender's, The Healing Path to continue together what happened that night.

ps - Dan Allender's books are now available in the Spouse & Family office at the student center at community life. Just bring your gift certificate to redeem.
